Acne medicine

Post by NOMEX »

Does anyone have suggestions for acne treatment? I've been breaking out pretty bad lately and curious what everyone uses to get rid of theirs. Lately I've been using a mixture of aloe vera and peppermint oil, which works wonders on reducing redness, but my acne still won't go away. I just bought some omega-3 fish oil vitamins to go along with the aloe vera and peppermint oil.

I talked with luch and techfall about this in flashchat the other night and they pointed out how much your diet affects your acne. I'm going to stop eating greasy foods and step down on the sugar intake as well.

Anyways.. any suggestions? Hopefully I can compile a big list of stuff to try and see what works best for me.

Thanks in advance,

Diet is huge, but if you really have a problem, you can always go to a dermatologists and get your face mapped. They will hook it up and then prescribe the right kinds of meds for your face...

Dermalogica are good products to use as well...

i use hot water to wash cold water to rinse and close my pores back up once they are clean
also drink lots of water and don't drink lots of soda
get some sun
I use some proactive makeup stuff to hide small red blemishes aswell as treat it. No girl has ever noticed and said anything.

Accutane.

But they only really give it to you as a last resort - at least that's how it was for me in high school.

It's powerful shit, and it works. But they have to draw blood once a month to make sure it isn't fucking with your liver and it will chap the hell out of your lips.

Go to a dermatologist and see what they recommend.

Also, if you touch your face with your hands a lot that can cause you to break out.

getting some sun, even tanning a bit, really cleared me up years ago

finding a good face soap, using it in the morning and night, and not using shitty lotions really did as well

now only get a few here and there, and if I get lazy with washing my face

I second kaboom, accutane is the shit. it fucks your face up though while you are on it, like you will be super fucking dry, or at least I was.

Also, if you use accutane, make sure you DO NOT take supplements/recreational drugs. Mainly avoid creatine. Accutane fucks with your creatine levels and can screw your liver up. Also accutane has been linked to suicide, depression and irritable bowl syndrome. Actually there is a class action law suit going on right now against accutane b/c of the irritable bowl syndrome connection.

Besides accutane, proactive is pretty good as far as products go.

Make sure when you wash your face that you use a separate wash cloth to dry your face off. An ex-girlfriend of mine did this and I think she's got a point. You don't want the rest of your body oils and other shit you wipe on a wash cloth getting on your face when you are drying/cleaning it (see toothpaste, shaving cream, lotions, ky).

Lastly, make sure you eat well. Avoid high fructose corn syrup, trans fats, sugary foods, and anything high in cholesterol.

Awesome! thank you all for the advice..

I took accutane about 4 years ago and it worked, but I remember the side effects made me tired and unmotivated to do anything. So if you ask me, it wasn't worth it. plus my acne came back after taking it for 6 months. Going to find some over the counter meds and make sure I keep my face clean. Thanks all

I had to take Accutane twice. Had a better response to it the second time.

But again, I tried everything else before hey gave it to me so it was a last resort.

That was 10 years ago so I'm sure there is now more out on the market that could be effective.

Proactive works well for me. I just tried Acne free( https://www.acnefree.com/index.htm ) basically a proactive knockoff but cheaper, seems to work ok as well. My acne wasn't bad before, but Id usually have a zit or two. Since I started using proactive a few years ago, its rare that I have any sort of breakouts.
