Plastic Collar Stays

Are you supposed to leave those plastic strips that come inside the collar? Or do you take them out?

OH, and they really only come in shirts I would wear for work, LOL.

I take them out. If you leave them in, and you got to iron them, they will leave an imprint.

What Latte means is take them out before you iron them...there's nothing wrong with collar stays...even shirt stays imo, but then again I usually wear t-shirts anyway

you leave them in. take them out to wash/dry clean/iron the shirt. when you're wearing it, you put them back in. it makes your collar points stay straight and sharp and professional. if you don't have them in there, you'll look like a total unprofessional slob with no style and no clue on how to dress. your collar will end up looking like dilbert's tie after a bit.

it's not even a matter of taste or anything like that. when the shirt is on, you have those collar stays in.

OK, I take my shirts to the dry cleaner ( dont really know how to iron)....do you think they know how to do this.

KOA beat me to it with the perfect advice. In my experience the dry cleaner normally does not remove them (keeping up with them would be too awkward), so take them out before you take the shirts in.

You can also invest in some metal ones, which last longer than the plastic ones. Eventually the plastic ones will probably get a bit bent and misshapen.

Ted Baker used to put collar stays in their shirts that were thicker plastic and had one or two words on them ("sex"; "love"; that sort of thing). They were designed to be used (in a fun way, obviously) as swizzle sticks for drinks. Correctly wielded they started some amusing conversations...

One other thing - learn how to iron. You can find guidance on the internet. You never know when it will come in handy, even if you only have a few items that you want to iron (I pretty much iron everything, but I know I'm in the minority in that regard).

Not a problem. I actually meant the retarded comment, but I've always done well ironing, so I haven't needed to use them. I'll invest in the metal ones either way, since I am a fan of dress shirts.
