Is there a Master Plan?

Post by Bondus »

Guys,

As you may know, I read. The difficulty is that in all the titles I read I keep finding conflicting advice, some say be brash, loud and confident with women, others by natural, some be cool and make them do the chasing. Presently I'm reading "Absolute Magic" by mentalist illusionist Derren Brown in which he states that being brash and loud and doing any kind of overt magic (cards, coins, other household props) sets people up to think you are one step up from a rose seller (rose for the lady?) and gets people in the mind frame that they are expecting to see some kind of sleight of hand magic which rather than entertain, makes you a pest, and makes an audience deeply suspicious of your motives. "Hey if he can hide that, what else is he hiding?"

Instead he proposes dressing normally, to fit the occasion, and doing covert and harder to understand tricks such as cold reading etc. Anything that connects with an audience’s sense of wonder and improbability. In short, anything that makes you mysterious, fascinating and fires curiosity, rather than be seen as Mr.Entertainment who is happy to do tricks for applause

This has left me somewhat amiss. Is there really a master plan to the world of pickup? Or is it just catch as one can, read and do as one must, form your own opinions on things, and learn as you go along?

I can't necessarily give the best advice, as I am still learning the game, slowly, but surely. Magic is fine, it can be used to entertain, and keep the attention of others. Yes, dress to fit the occasion, but if you read The Game then you would know the advantages of peacocking. Cold reading is GREAT! I'm trying to learn that right now, so when I start opening today for my 30 day challenge, I can at least have somewhat of an idea of where to go afterwards. If you handle your magic tricks with the right attitude, you won't be a bother to the set, and it is a great reason to isolate the target after being in set for a little while (here let me show you something cool). Anyways, that's my input.

For me, the game is a path of self awareness, of learning how to be comfortable being yourself, being confident in yourself, being a man, designing your life the way you want it which means playing by your own rules. If you are interested in magic, then use it when it makes sense. Just don't become the dancing monkey. I think one of the pitfalls of pickup is people tend to follow gurus and emulate them to a T. Those things will help you get laid but they won't help you be you.

People like style, mystery, Ross, bravo learned from others, learned from experience and developed their own style. That's what it's about. Being you. When you can be your best you and be confident with yourself, then you will have no problem meeting women. I've found that naturals, who know who they and are comfortable with that, have no problem initiating conversations with women and seducing them.

One other piece of advice I will give you as an avid reader is stop reading and start doing. I went overboard learning theories, rules, gambits and routines. I found myself having analysis paralysis and micromanaging every interaction. I had to learn to let go. To be in the moment. This is still a work in progress but I am getting there. I can tell you that learning too many rules and theories will only make it more difficult.

I think people who are smart and analytical tend to gravitate to pickup. It's natural for us to want to read everything we can about it. I can tell you one thing. I learned more in one weekend opening 36 sets with no alcohol than I learned in 3 years of reading, watching dvd's and listening to cd's.

Interesting question Bravo. I've never really had any clear objective in mind (which I'm guessing is where I'm going wrong ). I need to focus my attention on working toward achieving some definite goals rather than allowing myself to be constantly sidetracked by books, CD's,DVD's etc. New Media and reading materials will always present themselves, since the world is in a state of constant change and there is no way that anyone can possibly read everything within a lifetime.

Interesting food for thought. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

the only way you get good at something is by doing it

you dont loose weight by READING about dieting

you dont learn martial arts by WATCHING a video on it

you get good by practicing it

dont be a perfect preparer

be a do'er
