Stiegl’s self improvement thread

Post by Stiegl »

So I want to improve myself. I have a lot of free time this month, and I’m gonna make a big push. To motivate myself, I’m making a self-improvement thread to keep myself accountable. I figure this will FORCE me to do what’s good for me until I develop a HABIT of doing what’s good for me.

For the next 30 days, I’m going to do these daily self improvement exercises and post it to the BHood.

-Spend atleast 1 hour a day playing guitar with the intent to get better
By the end of 30 days, I want to be able to play the following songs perfectly on Rocksmith:
-“X-Kid” – Greenday
-“Machine Head” – Bush
-“Last dance with Mary Jane” – Tom Petty
-“Holes in happiness” – Marylin Manson

-Spend 1 hour a day working on being a better storyteller. This means working on stories, practicing talking charismatically, practicing speaking with better oratory, and things like that. This is a time based daily goal, it’s really hard to get an objective metric to set a goal against.

-Work on my fitness. I’m still injured and I can’t go heavy, but I can get fit and get my muscle strength up to prevent re-injury. Also, eat fairly clean throughout the day, get atleast 100grams (3.5 ounces) of protein and 3 good servings of fruits and vegetables. My goals are:
-30 pushups with a 25lb weighted vest
-20 pullups
-30 reps with a 45lb kettlebell

-Go to 2 meetup activities a week, one by Thursday and one by Sunday

-Work on my mindset. On every one of these activities, I will do it with the mindset that I am doing it because I want to be a better person for myself. Not because it will help me with game. Not because people will notice. Not because it will make my life better. I will do this because I respect myself and the person I want to become does these things.

Also, to make it real for me, I’m going to donate $50 to Hillary Clintons campaign if I quit (hattip Moiser). I might miss an item here or there because of time issues, but if I quit or start to mangle this, I have no choice but to give team Clinton my hard earned money.

Day 1:

Guitar: Greendays X-Kid, got halfway through the song. Not too difficult, I've been practicing it a bit before.

Storytelling: Worked on better oratory while reading. I keep going into a fake "stage mode", I need to control it to a more realistic style of talking.

Fitness: Worked out today, ate somewhat well. Will eat better tomorrow when I have a chance to make my own food.

Mindset: I definitely didn't want to do this for me. The only way I could motivate myself was knowing it's for the BHood. Gotta drill it into my head that this is for myself and myself only.

Want to add to your self-improvement thread

about expanding your mindset

- read leadership books

and honestly - I'm saying this because of how much it has helped me and paid off. I know how it can help you if you really want to learn it.

Bravo was a big influence in developing my mindset - about women and more importantly about being a man.

Even today I am seeing how much different I am and solid in my logical way of thinking than most.

and just like everyone, there's always another level I have to get to.

Bravo has leveled up even higher since PX2. We are always working up - it is part of growing.

You have to realize you need to do something everyday that helps you level up.

PX2 was an advanced track. I'm not even sure when the next PX is - if there will be one.

But I would call Bravo and help you on your mindset - if you are serious about this.

I did, and this is what came from it:

Great to see Stiegl! I'll be keeping my eye on this, keep yourself honest and push yourself!

I can't take credit for that I'm afraid, that was definitely Bravo and Belial's gig!

Day 2:

Guitar: Working on the chord changes late in the song on X-KId. Some really weird chord positions.

Storytelling: Working on getting a better inflection pattern when reading. Still going "stage fake"

Fitness: It was a rest day, so I just did some yoga and core exercises

Mindset: Wanted to do this a big for me because of the progress I made on guitar. It seems to inspire me.

Day 3 (Friday):

Guitar: Still practicing the awkward chord changes on the Greenday song.

Storytelling: Im starting to get used to an inflection pattern that sounds a bit more entheusiastic even if I'm feeling flat. Gotta keep practicing.

Fitness: Did my workout, diet wasn't so good though because I ate out. I've gotta start cooking large portions and having them in my freezer

Mindset: Coaching call with Bravo, there were a lot of good points that he brought up. I have to do some thinking and figure out how to incorporate it

Day 4 (Saturday)

Can't get anything done today because I have a girl coming over. She invited herself last night, so I gotta spend the day cleaning :-( No meetup either because of it.

Keep your place clean so it's always ready for a girl to pop by.

Stay ready. Ain't got to get ready.

And it doesn't take away from other things.

If so much free time. Make that a goal. Get your place on lock.
Respectfully,
Bravo

This is one of my weaknesses, too. Seems like with cats, the hair gets everywhere all the time, and vacuuming doesn't do a whole lot. But then there's clutter, which is an even bigger issue. If you find any practical tips for keeping this under control, let me know!

You bring up a good point Bravo. I'm gonna add that to my daily list: keep my place clean enough to bring a girl over. Gotta develop that habit.

Day 5 (Sunday)

Guitar: Practicing the entire Greenday song. I'm getting pretty good at it

Storytelling: Spent a couple of hours doing chores while thinking in the new inflection pattern. Trying to make it an everyday habit rather than something I turn on.

Fitness: Diet was very good, I cooked enough for 5 good meals yesterday. Did yoga and core exercises.

Mindset: Still struggling with doing it for me. I feel apathetic when I think that noone is going to see what I'm doing and it's just what I want to do. I feel motivated when I think it will make me more awesome. I will keep drilling it into my head until I accept it and develop the habit.

Taking ice's advice and locating that book "Quiet: The Power of Introverts in world that can't stop thinking". Will read through it this week.
