Blazer Pockets

Post by Zebulon »

I just purchased a Kenneth Cole Reaction black blazer (http://www.kennethcole.com/product/inde ... Id=3946355), it's a more formal style blazer overall. I'm planning on combining it with dark jeans, stainless accessories, and some nice skater shoes to give it an overall semi-formal look.

For the pockets they are all partially sewn shut. I would like to keep a few things in the pockets to lessen the unsightly bulges in my pants (card case, phone, etc.).

Is it alright to open up the pockets to store my belongings in? Or is there an unwritten rule about specific pockets being for decoration only?

If I do end up using the pockets, any rules about that as well? I don't want the blazer to lose its shape over time :S

Also, in which scenarios during night game would a blazer be inappropriate? (are they alright to use in clubs/pubs/etc.?)

Thanks in advance for your answers guys, I appreciate it :D

how much stuff do u need to carry. should just be gum, keys, and cell phone.
cigs and lighter(or no lighter and cigs so you can open and ask for a cig from guys or girls and create social proof) if you smoke
camera if you want social proof.

for the most part I would just keep things in my back pocket if I were you. looking bulky is weird in a club, just go with the bare essentials.

they can be worn in clubs, but why you would combine skater shoes and a blazer i dunno.
I see a lot of you new guys wearing skater shoes...the first thing a chick looks at after your first overall appearance is SHOES. if your gonna go to the club, wear some nice shoes ^_^ especially with such a nice blazer like that. try aldo shoes

DO NOT tear open the pockets that are sewn shut. those are false pockets and are designed that way on purpose. on the inside of the blazer you should have two pockets that are open, you can use those.

try to minimize before you go out so you have as little to carry as possible. obviously you need your phone and keys. get a small wallet. i have my regular wallet that has all kinds of shit in there, but i also have a very slim wallet for when i'm specifically headed out that just holds a credit card, ID, and another card or two if i need it to, and the outside of it doubles as a money clip for cash. i can put this in my pants pocket and it leaves no outline. i usually try to have a camera with me and i just stick that in back pocket of pants. what else do you need to have with you?

agreed with fame on the shoes. with a nice outfit like that, you want to have some nice shoes. the only way i've seen mismatched shoes work well is if you're crazy dressed up. i have a friend in vegas who is a VIP host/promoter and when he works, he wears a really nice black suit, really nice dress shirt and tie...and white adidas sneakers. and it works for him because it's so mismatched and he seems to be able to pull it off. but it only works because he is dressed so nice and professional except for that. if he just had nice pants and a button down shirt on with the sneakers, it would lose the effect and at that point he would just look like he had no fashion sense...

First off, it is a nice jacket - good call. I don't like the look the model is wearing on the website, but the jacket itself is quality.

Second, the only slight modification to KOA's spot-on advice about the outside pockets is if the top pocket (on the left breast) is sewn shut it can be opened up if - and only if - you want to wear a pocket square (a look I rather like but which is very uncommon and which may be more congruent with my relatively formal dressing style). Otherwise, as KOA says, leave 'em closed.

KOA and Fame are also absolutely right about minimising the shit you take with you when you go out. Take only what you absolutely need; it both helps with keeping your look streamlined and means you have less stuff to lose if the night takes a turn for the wild. If the jacket is properly fitted it may bulge if you put much beyond a slim wallet and phone in the inside pockets. In terms of my trousers I never put anything in my back pockets but that's mainly because I live in London, where "stuff in the back pocket" becomes "stuff that gets pickpocketed"!

When I go out all I take is Wallet, phone and keys. I mean I suppose if you smoke thats a bit different, but still nothing should require more than your two jean pockets.

For social proof you CAN take a camera. However I always know in my group of friends there is at least one girl who takes a camera, so I just let them tag me on FB and thats that. I always keep the pockets sown shut, as my blazers are meant to just make a (T-)shirt look better, not for storrage. If it has an open one inside use that. However, I feel uneasy unless I have the phone/keys/wallet combo in my pockets, like a weight limit that I feel weird without.

if for some reason you still want to wear white sneakers (it can be done) I strongly STRONGLY suggest you get some sort of flashy white belt to go with it.
