Should I quit video games?

Post by jigsaw »

I have been thinking of how I spend the time in my life. For most of my life I have been a gamer. It's a lot of fun to me. I do not think that I am an addict or anything. I might play like 4 hours a day max, usually a little less.

It's just that I am aware it doesn't improve me as a person and it's sort of an escape. I'm told I should spend more time reading or practicing guitar.

Anyone here play video games or did? What do you guys think?

What do you think?

If you spent four hours a day on anything, you could master something.

In twenty years from now, looking back on your life, what are you doing now that you'll feel proud about? What are you doing now that you're not so proud of?

The way I see it, my time spent on the computer is mostly a waste of my life — I'll never reflect on my time online, and say, "Gee, I wish I had spent more time refreshing my inbox and scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed." On the other hand, I'll look back fondly on time spent reading and writing, hitchhiking/traveling, working out, practicing the violin, and hanging out with friends.

Escaping is fine. We all need some time to unwind. I like to watch movies. But I feel like I've got that in a good balance with the productive stuff that I'll feel good about later on. I think it ultimately comes down to how you feel your life is going in general.

This

And even if you don't master. Why not just spend the time on leveling YOU up. Instead of a make believe character?

I'll be honest I love to indulge in a night of bf4 every once in a while, or play my roommates in a sports game.

That being said I've seen in my life my video game consumption and life satisfaction are directly correlated. The more time I spend online, the more lazy I feel and the less I get done. Which then makes me feel a little shitty and more lazy. Where as when my life is full with my education, fishing, girls, working out, reading etc, I hardly game but will feel fantastic.

I'm not telling you to give it up, but more moderation and expanding your hobbies will help with the ladies. it just depends on what you want.

Hmmm. I will think about this. I do not play them as much as I used to I will admit. Ive started practicing guitar and I am TRYING to read more. There is also pickup obviously. It might take time to decide if I should give VGs up entirely.
