Hey guys! Wanted to come over to the Armory because I'm really at home with firearms, prepping, survivalism, and everything outdoorsy and wilderness. Growing up in Kentucky we hunted a lot of times as well as lived out in the middle of no where (I wake up in the morning, look out my window and see West Virginia.). Living in the mountains really taught me to be self-sufficient and the need to prepare in case something were to happen.
Am I one of those crazies on NatGeo saying that a particular thing is going to happen and I'm prepping for that particular thing? No. I feel that prepping should be a generalized procedure that will give you the best possible chances in case SOMETHING happens. I'll give you an example.
Fox News and Vice News recently did articles about the dangers of an Electro Magnetic Pulse attack against the United States infrastructure. About a month or so later, Suspicious0bservers, a channel I follow on YouTube concerning solar weather and the effects that the star has upon our planet, so on and so forth, issues a warning of the pole reversal of Earth. If the poles reverse, the magnetic field of Earth will be significantly weakened, meaning any flare or solar event will cause significant damage to the power grid, if not take it out completely.
Two sides of one issue. Will we be attacked with an EMP? Or will a pole reversal or massive CME from the sun knock out our power grid before that occurs? This isn't to say that it will, just an example of a what-if scenario that is good to test your preps and is a good thought exercise. Any number of things COULD happen. It's just best to prepare in case SOMETHING happens.
Either way, I have loaded a GHB, or Get Home Bag, into the back of my Z.
For reference, here are it's contents:
-Broken in Army boots
-9mm Sccy cpx-2 with 2 loaded 10 rd magazines, stored in a different compartment of the bag
-10 inch K-Bar (from deployment)
-Fleece Jacket
-Pair of Jeans
-static bag that contains a crank radio, shake flashlight, and compass with topographical maps
-an MRE and water
This is just the GHB. It's a generalized load-out in case I have to hike from work back to my apartment. I learned my lesson when I had to walk from Dunwoody to Roswell during Snow-Pocalypse... That was not fun. I was not prepared and walked 11 miles in dress shoes, a shirt and tie, and fleece jacket. When I made it back I was covered in ice and I had to throw away almost everything I was wearing due to the hike ruining them. I had sufficient stores of food and water to last throughout the ordeal, but I was not protected in case I was robbed (Which several apartments close to mine were broken into and ransacked). After that, I realized the folly of my actions and began taking steps to mitigate potential problems.
I also am going to go at the last part of this month and apply for my concealed carry, which will make it legal for me to carry the pistol on me where ever I go. I'm not one of those guys who will carry everywhere I go, but if the event were to occur again where I had to walk back to my apartment, I don't want some self-righteous cop stopping me and causing a fuss because I decided to protect myself.
What about you guys? Any particular preparations that you have in case something were to kick off?

Read and respond to Brock's recent posts in here.
Also I may be working on a Bravohood tactical/prepped style course soon.

Re: Who here are preppers?
Cool man. I went to a 3 week wilderness survival course this summer. The last week, for the first 3 days, I only had a knife. With just a knife, I made a shelter, fire, procured water, and foraged and fished for food. After the 3rd day I was given my Bob (bug out bag). Then for the next 3 days we made camp in a Jew place every day.
Last weekend I went camping in north Ga at 2.different Wildlife Management Areas. This weekend I went deer hunting at on my uncle's land.
To me, the ultimate test of a survivalist is being able to survive with minimal equipment. I know for a fact that I can live off the land with only a knife. With my BOB I can live like a king:)

Oh sweet! What kind of survival course was it? Sigma 3 or? And I agree completely! If you can't survive with just a knife for a few days, you probably won't make it at all.
