Applied to appear on a Dating Reality TV Show

Post by Bondus »

So I just applied to appear as a contestant on a dating reality TV via a media production company in the UK called Standing Room Only.
TV application.jpg
The central premise of the show is this Ultimate Lad Dapper Laughs has a brand spanking new TV show and is looking for single men and women who need pulling tips and expert advice from the man in the know.
Are you useless when it comes to pulling?
The nice guy who always finishes last?
The girl who can’t catch his eye?

Whatever your pulling problem, Dapper wants to hear from you.

Obviously if I get chosen to participate and make it through all the selection processes, I don't want to disappoint. But googling the host has revealed a few problems http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/dapper-l ... -pisstaker

Anyone any advice?

The article seems to show that the host is some talentless/offensive comedian trying to find a niche that works for him, and he fancies himself the next Ant & Dec without the polish.

Reality shows have a way of making you famous (or infamous lol)...but you trade a lot of your own true personality for the manufactured one that the producers make for you. I had a buddy who worked on the set of Real World Hawaii, and he said that a few of the cast members were actually very nice and quite intelligent...But the producers made them out to be raving drunks and idiots simply looking to get high.

Yeah that was my concern as well, I'm aware that reality TV producers have a few psychopathologic tendencies e.g. Splicing material to suit their own ends and specially selecting the most vulnerable so they can make a laughing stock out of them e.g. The modern day equivalent of bearbaiting. My brother appeared on a quiz show, where the central premise is to share or steal the editors made his introductory ramble and interview (which was full of loaded questions) made him sound misogynistic.

OK, so I've made the long list. Got to complete the second, more in depth form by Friday (1st August)

a). The host, Dapper Laughs seems to be a jerk and about as funny as Ebola. He seems too egocentric to genuinely care and my suspicion is it is just a platform for engineering cheap laughs at the expense of the most vunerable (DLV).

b).I ultimately have no control over the direction the shows producers portray me, owing to the fact that television is a form of light hypnosis and therefore accessing a potential audience of a few million UK AFCs unconscious minds, the image they portray with is likely to stick and therefore I could end up lumbered with a persona (for better or worse).

c). I am uncomfortable with the notion of having my emotional laundry hung out for public inspection. it seems abhorrent, tasteless, crass and deeply unbecoming especially if it is just for the purposes of getting a few cheap laughs, rather than to help me become a better more attractive man overall.

I've turned down quite a few interviews and a few TV spots.

Their goal isn't to make this stuff, me, or my teaching look good.

It's to get some ratings. Which usually entails goofing on it.

I was invited to the LA new spot that other PUAs went to, and everyone looked horrible which I warned them.

Hell, even the Elimidate episode from THE GAME, sucked.

So prob for best.
Respectfully,

So glad I wasn't a part of this following the backlash the UK media has given it http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/lee-ker ... 59094.html
