Becoming the Protector of Loved Ones

Post by MagneticVibe »

This thread will be dedicated to my incorporation of becoming the protector of loved ones.

I am interested to incorporate self defense into my life with either learning to use an easily accessible weapon, martial arts, or learning to use tools/gadgets to help me make life easier. If anyone has any recommendations/feedback that would be great. I'm looking for something that is simple and adds tons of value into my life.

*Sash is the same as a belt

Background in self defense:
Brown Sash: Yuen Kay San's lineage Wing Chun (Learned butterfly knives movements and applications)
Yellow Sash: Chen Style/Yang style Tai Chi
Yellow Sash: Chin Na (Chinese joint locks)
Unranked : San Shou (Chinese free fighting/sparring)
Unranked: Shuai Jiao (Chinese wrestling/throwing)
White Sash: BJJ

Weapons experience: Butterfly knives, 9-inch pole, saber

I'm currently taking a break until I have enough money to take classes again, but my main focus would be Chen style with San Shou. I chose San Shou because it's a workout and has its many applications. I chose Chen style tai chi, because it's relaxing as meditation and adds to my flexibility, the teacher is well known with great insight, an activity I can do with girls, and allows me to be more aware of the feelings in my whole body.

I might finish up Wing Chun sometime since it's also an interesting martial art.

Just received my Protac 2L Stream light, I'll be feeling more safe while gaming in the city alone. Now I'll be working on saving money to take up San Shou again (Chinese military mixed martial art or free fighting).

I almost got into a confrontation the other day with this thug looking guy at the club having an ego and pushing me when I passed by but after I noticed the pattern, I used the principles from Tai Chi and loosened my body. He was basically pushing against himself or just nothing.

If I got angry, it definitely would of turned into a fight. Needless to say, its crucial for me to learn martial arts again for protection and a part of my identity since I've been doing it for a while now.

Any tips would be accepted.
