Knife sharpener/how to sharpen knives

Post by Ice »

I have a Benchmade Griptilian and Mimravus

They are starting to lose their sharpness. I've seen various sharpeners on the internet with mixed reviews

Wondering if anyone can shed light on what best sharpener is and how to sharpen. Thanks guys.

I think it really depends on the quality and purpose of knife. A knife used for bushcraft should have high quality steel. Once it is sharp it will keep an edge longer and be easier to maintain a sharp blade with a sharpening stone.
One used in a kitchen may use stainless steel, so I just use one of the quick cross blade sharpeners for those. Plus, I do not need a razor sharp blade to cut meat or veggies.
Skinning knives for me require the most maintenance in hunting season. Bones and nicks on the blade make it dull quicker. So when I need to get a skinning knife back to razor sharp after it has been through some tough bone or the blade has been nicked, I use the spyderco Tri-angle sharpmaker. Once I have a decent sharpness, I will fine tune with sharpening stone.
