Feeling sick to my stomach about my job

Post by Guilty Pleasure »

So judging from the topic, this obviously isn't a good sign.

I've been debating back and forth as to whether I should leave my job. Here is a little background:

I work in retail as an assistant manager. So it's a full time job and its very demanding as far as commitment. I consider myself a top seller in my market and I have proven so although I have many opportunities that I still need to tackle. So the feedback isn't what bugs me and I am good with accepting constructive critisism.

What I am not cool with is the following:

1.closing shifts 4 out of the 5 days that I work.
2.the fact that my manager is never wrong in her head (this to me is a big red flag)
3. The fact that whenever the schedule changes we MUST adjust our personal lives to accommodate the store
4. She NEVER CLOSES nor is ever inconvenienced the way myself and the other manager are when the schedule is changed within (schedule changed happen within the same week to a 24 hr time frame)
5. She picks fights about little shit such as my facial expressions and the way I answer my phone to my proffesionalism towards her.
6.she belittles the shit out of me sometimes.

I hit my breaking point today because she is expecting me to work a 4-9 shift (I am a fucking manager and a full time employee).

Also I can't stand to answer my phone. My stomach turns every time my stores number displays.
I won't stand to be disrespected and treated like this. Unfortunately there have been times where she sat down and talked to me.. But those times are extremely seldom.

Am I being too extreme?? Only reason I really want to quit is because it crosses my mind almost every other week.

Hey man, so first is naming the issue - once you have this, more able to address and resolve

Is this about your job, or is this about the leader you report to?

The leader I report to. I'm not the only guy who feels like this. She had a 90% turn rate. The other manager also has debates about quitting. The difference between myself and him is that I talk back and don't let her bash me. And he has no balls (I know this because he deals with the same shit from his girl)

On top of that she has a 90% turn rate (means. 90% of her employees quit on her)
No one has the balls to tell her to her face that she is out of control.

Everyone makes an excuse to leave because they fear her

This is a tough situation for you. It sucks to have her treating you poorly, but as far as her having the best schedule and not having to close and all that, you know what they say. It's good to be the King. Meaning the leader gets to make the rules. I feel for you my man.

what does this say about what kind of leadership you'd want to follow, and what are you learning about how you want to be as a leader?

Also - careful about victimization justification

not saying you are - just saying be careful

Always, stick to the behaviour - not the person

Did you end up having conversations with her? How do you think you should move forward?

Ice has some good points. I have some knowledge on this. I had a boss for over a year, that was a total asshole. He was over 100 miles away, but would cuss you out, accuse you of stuff you didn't do, would freak out about every little thing, was just a total asshole. I got a new boss in April, the coolest guy ever. Lets us make our own decisions, trust us, just a joy to work for. Even asks my opinion on things, which is awesome.

One thing I would add, even though you shouldn't care what people think if you have an asshole for a boss, its going to takes it toll, and ruin your day. There are days I wanted to go up to his office, and whip his ass. Unless you have another job lined up, don't quit the one you have. That's a bad idea, also these things have a way of working themselves out. Your boss will probably move on sooner or later. But, if it is really bother you, and you think your being singled out, I would go to your bosses boss or higher management and say you have a complaint. Hope this helps buddy

Ive been in this situation before...

I'm quite impulsive so once I had enough I just quit, said fuck you to his face and gave him a resignation letter.

Took me two weeks to find another job.

Sometimes if you aren't happy, and sounds like you hate this bitch, you just have to take a risk, if I was in your shoes I would start trying to find other work ASAP, you will feel so much better by getting out of there.
