Swing to grave

Post by JoeBlack »

Just started my new shit at work today, Monday-Friday grave, coming from a Wed-Sunday swing. Gave up the old schedule to have Fridays and Saturdays off to get back into gaming. Anyone here work a graveyard schedule? any pointers to stay awake? staying up is no joke. I really dont want to get addicted to coffee, but as the shift progressed so did my cups of coffee. I think i had 5 :o ...

I may try some green tea, I heard that has natural caffeine. About to be off at 8am pacific time. I figured if I can get 4hrs of sleep after work, get my day started at 1:30 and be back in bed by 7-7:30 to be up by 11pm, My body should get used to the new schedule...-JB

I've been pretty much a nocturnal creature ever since I started working in the nightlife industry, and currently go to bed around 4-6am and wake up around 10am-noon, no alarm clock needed. Your body will naturally adapt to the new schedule, especially if your schedule is consistent.

For now though, as your body adjusts:
- Green tea helps!
- Blackout curtains are a realllly smart investment
- If your job isn't "busy" (it involves a lot of sitting around & observing/babysitting people/stuff), bring something to keep you busy & amused, like a portable video game system, ipad with internet connection, book/e-reader, etc. Stand up once in a while to break up the monotony

I've worked graves for 20 years.

Guard your sleeping time furiously.

Everybody will be calling you at 8 am to get you to do this or that. Don't schedule anything during your sleep period.

Oh, don't take any bullshit from people when you sleep till noon.

You'll get used to it.

At DJ, luckily my schedule does only consist of looking at monitors for 8hrs. @ Wiz kid, that’s what I figured, after work no matter what I’m getting my four hours of sleep. Thanks for the reply guys. -JB
