I bumped Latte's thread for everyone, but here is a direct link : http://bravopua.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2007

This advice has really helped me. Instead of thinking of myself as that fat unpopular kid,
i have been thinking of myself as the creative intelligent boy who has struggled to overcome
alot of shit in his life and has walked away with a stronger character as a result.
I feel like this forum is full of people who have struggled with lifes many problems and
overcome- the sort of amazing, talented people I need in my life.
Keep it up guys, and we will transform every miserable kid like me into a man who has a real
reason to be confident in himself!

As I think about what I have to offer to others on this board just by being older (43) I have a little more life experience. Even though I struggled socially through childhood and high school I ultimately emerged to go to the top technical university in Canada and have had a 20 year career in high tech so far. I have a lot to learn from most of you in this forum so I appreciate all the time you put in. But I am continually impressed with the dedication of most of the people toward continual improvement. This is also the track I am on.

The notes about loving the fat boy spoke to me as well. I was not fat but actually painfully thin and shy. Maintaining weight has always been a problem. So loving that little boy and giving him credit for surviving and ultimately thriving has been important for me as well.

I've learned in the past year that self confidence can be partitioned. I am very confident in my career, familial relationships, really in most aspects of my life. If there is one area of my life that I lack confidence I have learned to be forgiving to myself about that. And to be patient. I am going to make sure the next 40 years are awesome. Of that I have no doubt.
