Anyone claiming to be in countless street fights & competitons in my experience is either highly exaggerating or has some serious issues. I have been in more fights than the average person definitely because I pay attention not because I have something to prove. I am the guy that will look to see "why" the car alarm is going off or someone is running across the parking lot being chased. Plus I have bounced at a couple local bars here & I am by far the worst bouncer ever. Not because of my attitude or demeanor but my size. When someone is drunk I have found that they lack the ability to pick up on your presence so they fall back on your size. I am "NOT" a big guy & I end up being accosted by the guys I'm asking to leave.
But the best martial art is the one that's most practical for you. In my opinion there are few legit Muay Thai places or Krav Maga place here in the U.S.. 99.9% of the Muay Thai places are kickboxers who throw a shin kick & an elbow in & ride upon the popularity of Muay Thai. Krav Maga is similar in the fact its mainly guys who have trained in a couple different styles & add biting, clawing & the like & call it Krav Maga. Taekwondo is more of an art form than anything any more, same with karate. Kickboxing & boxing are usually a little better due to the fact that people usually spar.
Sparring is critical. YOU CANNOT GET GOOD WITHOUT SPARRING, PERIOD. Yes you have learned to act like you know what to do but until someone trys to impose their will on you in real life you really don't know shit.
So in my opinion its not where you train at its the environment you train in. I have trained MULTIPLE title holders out of my garage with minimal equipment because the environment was conducive to learning & everyone clicked. So that's my basic intro & views because I have seen a few posts on here that in my opinion are questionable. I know I know its a forum & people exaggerate. However it is a forum to help people learn. Egos should be checked at the keyboard .
