Is there any exercise I can do to help prepare myself next time a "fight or flight" moment occurs? Had something happen last night that reminded me of just what it feels like.

Most people dont realize this but theres a third option to the fight or flight which is freeze. Thats probably the worst thing you could possibly do in a situation.
Bravo, I forgot the quote but remember you saying it at the reunion. something along the lines of "when higher thought process turns off we resort to our base instincts or what we are trained to do."
If you aren't trained to do anything you're either going into flight mode, or worse you're going into freeze mode. Training some kind of combatives will train you to use that when those stressful situations come up. Just like Bravo's story about the homeless guy coming at him.

Yea, what Bravo said resonated with me too
"When shit goes down, we don't rise to the occasion, we default to our training."

I'd rather not get into it here. Call me sometime and I'll tell you.
I will say this, the "fight or flight" feeling I had turned out to be unwarranted. Once I realized that, I noticed how long it took me to calm down.... how nervous I was. My hands were even shaking a little.
I defiantly need to get some sort of training to fall back on. There is a place in town that teaches Gracie Jiu Jitsu, Submission Wrestling, and Kickboxing. From what I understanding this Jiu Jitsu is mostly about how to fight on the ground. That is all good, but wouldn't it make sense to also train myself in defense on my feet? Seems like going to ground would be a last resort... at least for someone with my build. I've been hesitant to go check it out because of my body type.

I'm actually gonna get back into BJJ. It's always good to know some type of self defense man. You never know when shit will go down. Better to be prepared instead of not knowing what the fuck to do.
Take it on and learn. Hope all is well brother.

Third response is fright which results in freezing.
Fourth is sex. (The four Fs)
All have to deal with the sympathic nervous system which is involuntary movement or reactions.
(Some science to support Bravo's quote.)
