I want to get my pops a shotgun for xmas for home defense.

I know little about shotguns, but after a little research I like the Mossberg 500 with CAR stock. Thoughts?

I don't want to spend more than $500 or so... so no Benelli's, haha

Remington 870

you can deck it out as much as you want- mine is like 2 Gs

or you can go basic and wood

just make sure to get an 18" barrel, thats as short as you can go, and if you dont by it with the tube extender on it (tube under barrel that holds rounds) then you if you put one on later, you need to have a gunsmith modify it so it works

no good, you want to be able to aim and lock into your shoulder

a stock like an AR15 works, speedfeed (what I have)

but really nice set up and price is the Magpul 870 foregrip and stock, was almost tinking of switching to

^^^^THAT looks simply fucking AWESOME. I love it.

How does one go about getting a Remington 870 with that Magpul stuff added on? Do i have to buy them separately or can a dealer sell it to me with that stuff already on it?

buy an 870, then just add on the parts

a couple screws or basic disassembly

- very easy, I use to do for free whenever people bought similar stuff from out

dealer might sell it, if not order online
