Hey guys,
I need some help, I've been trying to improve my wardrobe, but I'm on a serious budget. I like the idea of a button down shirt with long sleeves rolled up, so I saw this type of shirt at Macy's:

They are inexpensive, but look decent, I picked out a few today, 1 black, 1 Gray with black stripes, and 1 Red and White. All of them were designed to be rolled up and had the button to secure the rolled up sleeve, priced at $29 in the store.

Here is my problem, I put on the XL and with the sleeves rolled up my arms won't fit through. I've got pretty decent sized arms. I tried a XXL and I could actually get my arms through, but the sleeve was pretty damn tight around my bicep, close enough to cutting off circulation if I moved my arm to make it uncomfortable. Also the XXL was WAY too long.

Any suggestions? I don't really want to buy a $30 shirt and then spend more money altering it than the shirt is worth, but like I said I'm on a budget. I can't afford right now to go buy an $80 shirt and then spend a bunch getting it altered. HELP!!!

I've gotten good results shopping at Nordstrom Rack and Ross. They carry a lot of the good stuff in excess inventory or in off-sizes, so they may have what you're looking for, and the prices are much better than retail.

And even if you do need to tailor it, you're still spending on average less than $20 for a shirt at the store, so even if you add tailoring fees, you still come out on top.

You're letting the desire for one look - the sleeves MUST roll up - drive your entire purchasing decision. Don't.

My arms are personally too big to roll up a fatigue shirt, so I just don't go for the rolled-up-sleeves look.

Instead, I'll roll my shirt up twice over the cuffs, and it still looks good. Or I'll just fold the sleeves over the cuffs once.

I always wear a poppin' watch or some beads/jewely, so it's just not a bare wrist being exposed.

Works well for me.

Hey Bandit, they don't always have to roll these days. A year or two ago a lot of shirts were meant to be scrunched up, and not rolled. Rolling them of course decreases the diameter of the sleeve, but scrunching them up does not. A lot of shirts are designed for that, such as the ones that have the cloth snaps to hold up the scrunching.

Something like this will let you simply scrunch up the sleeve without rolling:

I have the same problem, so I don't roll.

The other option is custom fitted shirts to fit your body more nicely, mytailor.com sells custom mades (your choice of patterns) for around 80 per if you can afford it.
