New addition to my BOB

Post by Kid Brock »

This came about while making a fire last weekend. I had a matches but the wind made it difficult. With the wind blowing out the match, I kept thinking, they need to make matches that don't go out so easy.

This is when the stroke of genius hit me. Those candles at birthday parties that keep coming back when you blow them out. So keep a couple or a few in your bag, then let it keep a flame long enough to get your kindle catch fire:).

GF was able to start her campfire with 1 match

I started mine with 1 spark

we both used a cotton ball with vaseline, but right before we left, I found some nice dry grass and was able to start a fire with just 1 spark with that

We are both taking a class with Tony Nester this saturday :D

That is awesome. Here in Ga is has been raining a lot. So I have been using the inner bark on cedar trees. It makes a nice "nest" for tinder. The more you process tinder fibers down, the easier it will catch:) I also cheat sometimes and use magnesium shavings, they will flash up nicely from a spark:)
I have heard about, but not tried the cotton ball with vaseline yet. How do you carry those? Plastic bags or a plastic container?

I didnt know about fat wood until after our last trip, but where we were, sure there was TONS of it all around

cotton ball with vaseline worked great, also works with carmex or burts bees, which I always have left over- and working on a neat little idea on how to carry some

this is what I got GF also for Vday and loaded it up with V soaked cotton balls

dryer lint and a drop of hand sanitizer takes a spark really well too.
