You can only live about 3 days without water. But if you are in a Bug out situation or just primitive camping for the weekend, you obviously can not take a huge amount of water in your bags.
The sawyer mini solves that problem. It comes with a 160z bag that rolls up very compact. You can either use that bag, or just carry an empty water bottle with you. I have a pic of how it easily screws onto threaded plastic bottles.
I carry a 2 liter "gravity" sawyer water filter in my camping backpack, that way I make less trips back and forth to the river:) Below is a pic of it with the bag, and another pic of it attached to a water bottle. At around $20, they are a great investment.

What kind of filtration does it provide? Some are obviously better than others. I'm in the process of making a DIY portable distiller (For alcohol purposes but it would definitely handle water purification too)

Sawyer filter is certified at 0.1 micron. The Lifestraw 0.2 micron. So Sawyer wins that point. The Sawyer filters 100,000 gallons before needing to be replaced, while the Lifestraw filters 265 gallons before needing to be replaced. Sawyer obviously wins there also:)

Had a lifestray, but also heard they kinda suck, because you have to suck to make them work...

Awesome. I also like that it has the cleaning plunger also. Then if it gets a little clogged with Calcium deposits, or anything else, you can easily reverse the flow and clear it:)
