Has anyone cosplayed before?

Post by Noa »

Heading to NYC Comic Con this year, first time ever and I'm actually pretty excited. I'm a big comic book fan and figured if I'm going to comic con, I might as well make the best of it and have fun.

2 cosplay ideas are Gambit from Xmen and Peter Quill(star lord from guardians of the galaxy), those are the only ones I thought of that I have the best shot at portraying accurately. I'm welcome to more ideas, I got Flash as a potential idea.

I know costumes and stuff = expensive, but I've never done this before so does anyone here have any experience(s) they can share as to how I can prepare? Limiting my budget to about $500(not looking to spend that much, but that's my wiggle room for now).

Most cosplayers that have truly bad ass costumes didn't buy them. They made them. Might wanna look into that.

As far as preparation goes, do as much as you can. For $500 bucks you can probably get a decent premade costume, but so can anyone else. Seriously, try to make your own. It'll stand out and be more original even if you're copying a comic book.

What's your goal with this? Playing the part of a character you really like? Picking up girls? If your goal is picking up nerdy girls then you can play around with the costume. The flash's costume is dumb lol Way too simple. Gambit could be cool. I was thinking about going to dragon*con this year as Rape Sloth from the meme.

Jay-T, if you do rape sloth, make sure you take lots of pics, that should be just as awesome as Pedobear without the "overdone-ness" of it!

Noa: like Jay-T said, an interactive costume helps to make girls approach YOU. A lot of the girls who go to these things NEVER find a REAL MAN there since most guys who attend these conferences are complete AFCs. So if you've got some pretty decent game (and I know that you do), it should be pretty easy to get numbers or even get laid! Look up Field Reports by NSM, he's been to a bunch of these types of events and hooked up with a bunch of girls. Also look up Field Reports by Duke, my wing, he found his current gf at a local convention. Let these FRs inspire you!

NSM isn't around much but you might be able to reach him through a PM. He goes to Dragon*Con every year and has a lot of experienc with this type of thing. Living in atlanta has the perk of having the largest sci fi conference in the country (And it's only 3.5 weeks away!)

thanks for the advice fellas!

I'm mainly going to NYCCC just to experience and have fun with it.

I'll look into making some of the stuff on my own. If I were to buy the rest of the costume, is there an online merchant that you would recommend?

Will def look into those FRs!
