Systema Spetsnez

Post by Bondus »

Guys,

Considering martial arts as a way of bolstering my self confidence and self esteem. Have found a local class which teaches Systema Spetsnez (a Russian Mixed Martial Arts class). Physically it is excellent, but have reservation as to whether this would be of any practical use to me if I ever got into a fight. Here is there promotional video http://youtu.be/jqj-xcB1c5gfriends have warned me that some less than authentic martial arts classes are little better than playacting.

Your thoughts are valued as always

THE reason I drink Kettle One when going with vodka, is because that is what I drank with Vlad after a seminar years ago.

I also showed him a karambit for the first time.

:)

I dug the seminars and classes I went to for a little bit....but at the seminar, 98% of the people there were mall ninjas...so I took that as a sign to look for something else.

Then I got into Kali, which I highly recommend.

But it all comes down to the school and teachers, they could be awesome, or shit. Only one way to find out!
Respectfully,
Bravo

Been a couple of times, grappling is good and realistic, but in terms of weapons e.g. Someone comes at you with a length of chain, the intensity and realism seem to drop off dramatically. It seems to my novice ego mind, that if someone comes at you with any form of weapon, their attacks going to be premeditated, they are going to be Grade A pissed off and wanting to do you some serious damage . So someone cames at you with a length of chain and they are going to be trying to flay the skin from your back or if they get close enough strangle you with it, not gently tap you on the shoulder with the energy and enthusiasm as a sedated slouch.
The coach tells me that slow is the only way to learn, to make the response instinctive and that I need to detach my ego from my actions. Whilst respecting his greater knowledge of the subject, my mind is racing with questions about realism as to an actual fight environment. Has he actually been in one, has he used the techniques outside of the dojo? What can you know about yourself and your techniques if you've never been in a fight. Maybe I'm jumping ahead by reading about the famed Senshusei course in Japan, but there pain is seen as part of the course, you either learn quickly what you can endure physically and mentally and refine your technique accordingly or you quit.

I feel ya

One way to look at it, is any of the stuff useful in the UFC. If not then it might not be a technique that would work full speed.

Thats why I did Sayoc Kali so much...gets rid of the what if's, and just the what works
