Is there someone at the gym that might be able to give you a quick rundown? often they can work out a plan for you and this is included in ya membership cost
if you are just starting out don't want to go too hard
maybe do some bench, shoulder press, pull ups, tricep pushdown, arm curls, seated row
Just too see where you are at strength wise first.
then can build on that.

Alright, thanks Monteray. You've been a huge help!
Not sure if there's anyone at the gym that could give me any pointers. It's a university rec center. In any case, I'll ask around for help once I get there tonight.

ya man just see what you can lift, try do 3 sets of 12 and if too easy go more weight, if too heavy go less
write down in ya phone or whatever, then post it here
It took me a long time to work it all out when I first started. but I was learning from people in gym internet, friends, and now I can work most of my own stuff out but stll always trying to learn

Re: Syrrah's Spring semester workout thread
Also its gonna suck going in there at first and not lifting huge weights
I remember when my puny ass walked into the gym first time and saw all these huge motherfuckers I was like fuck this lifting my little ass weights.
but stick with it and dont give a fuck what other people are lifting/doing will make it easier and then over time you will get stronger and lift more and have bigger muscles and you realise it was all worth it.

Yep. You've seen the pic at the top of the thread. I'm a skinny dude. But I couldn't care less about being the Tiny Tim at the Gym. That sort of thing doesn't bother me in the least.
I went in today and asked around until one of the rec center workers could show me around and spot me for a few reps on the different machines. I didn't keep track of what was what or how much I did, but I'd like to get a few sessions with a personal trainer and get a plan worked out. It feels good to get started.

Re: Syrrah's Spring semester workout thread
yeah good attitude to have
and good work getting in there and having a go, personal trainer would be good idea, they can set you up with a basic program and then all you need to do is have discipline and follow it, easy.
so now you know what you want to do, go and find a personal trainer and call them and find out how much its going to cost you.

Re: Syrrah's Spring semester workout thread
It'll be around $30-35 per session through the University. Not too bad. I just need them to show me the ropes and get a plan set up.
Motivation will not be an issue. I'll still have to shove it to the backburner for one week out of the month, but I really enjoy the gym. Can't wait to be done with these papers so I can go work out and kick it in the sauna.
As a side note, I'm still sore from the little lifting I did on Monday.

Re: Syrrah's Spring semester workout thread
ya man that is a decent price. so now you just gotta get on it ASAP.
and yes will be sore for the first couple of weeks, but once you get used to it and train more will get less and less.
try and keep track of what you are doing, its good to look back and see how far you have come along after a few months

Re: Syrrah's Spring semester workout thread
Awesome advice, Monteray. I'll definitely keep track, at least some of the time. I just started emailing with the personal trainers at the U. I should be set up with one within the week.
