Stealth, it completely does (and this doesn't apply just to v-neck). And as said before, your avatar depends to a certain degree on the sort of woman you want to attract and the kind of places you like to hang out.
For example, a v-neck t-shirt simply would not work with my look. Furthermore, in the places I go, wearing a v-neck tee would not get me any admiring glances, because they are very rare among straight men in London in the types of pubs and bars I prefer.
On the other hand, I seem to recall from another post that Fame likes them (Fame, apologies if I am convicting you erroneously here) and based on what I know of Fame from this site, they clearly work for him. I imagine they are not that uncommon at all in southern California and no one would look askance at you for wearing one.
Let me be clear that I'm not saying you have to dress like everyone else - I definitely recommend against that. But you can't be completely detached from the world in which you operate and the women you want to meet. As Fame said in his OP, being dressed as a preppie in a Goth place isn't going to get you any positive attention, no matter how sharply put together you are.
If you're not yet sure what you want your look to be, try a few different things or (anticipating KOA here) do the mission in "Rules of the Game" where you put an outfit together (Days 4 and 5). And you can always post pictures here for (occasionally brutally) honest feedback.
Cheers,
KS

Clearly Fame and I were typing our responses at the same time, and I didn't see his before I hit the submit button!
