To avoid confusion, The article above if referring to .17 hmr ammo. Has nothing to do with a Ruger 10/22. They are different calibers, although both are rimfire.

.17 HMR advantages: Longer range, flatter shooting, more deadly on small animals.

.22 LR advantages: Everything else.

It's a great caliber, but .22 will do 90% of what .17HMR will do at 10% of the price.

If you need something larger than .22, for medium sized game at a distance, I would just get a .556

This is my favorite rifle for a bug out scenario.

The reason is, it easily breaks down and has a compact bag. You can carry the gun, a scope, and ammo in. Then when you need it, it is quick to reassemble.

Great weapon that you can fit in a vehicle or pack without drawing attention to the fact that you have a rifle with you:)

Definitely agree with you. You can carry so much ammo easily with a .22 and can kill most things worth eating at a distance. At short range you could use it for defence or for larger game, but shot placement is critical.

Also like .308/7.62mm scout type rifles. Short, powerful, tough as nails, and reliable.
