I guess I'm too manly as I don't use any! I'll have to check this out... any recommendations for someone between 25-35 who is hip cool and also professional?

I don't know if it can really relate, but I guess different scents must mean different things.

Spy, I'd recommend testing all the ones listed in this thread and see which one works best on you (this also provides an excellent opportunity to get a woman's opinion - I seem to recall Style mentioning an opener along these lines in The Game). I don't know what the situation is like where you live, but in London department stores and airports are the best places to try a lot of scents at once (seriously - the duty free shops in the London airports carry dozens of colognes). The challenge in giving a recommendation is that cologne reacts differently on each person, so the best scent for me will not necessarily be the best scent for you. And it's easy to be "hip" in this department because new colognes are constantly coming onto the market.

Cheers,

Go to fragrance store and say you want a cologne to fit X personality. Buy one you like that fits

When out, say u got a new cologne and need a female opinion, go into detail about your adventure choosing it. DHV and easy kino, works every time

I wear Terre D'Hermes a lot during winter and then go for fresher smelling colognes such as Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver in the spring & summer.

Also best to wear a new cologne for a few hours to see how it dries down before buying.

I am very selective about my scents and the cologne that I wear. I have only found two colognes that suit me. Marc Ecko and, as of last week, Coach. When I smelled Coach for the first time, I knew I had to get it - it had a manly seductive smell which wasn't too musky (like most manly colognes are).

How I know it works for me is that girls will tell me I smell good - especially when I'm not asking.
