Been looking into my local options for self defense and there is no Sayoc Kali training within 500 miles of me. There is however a Krav Maga weekly classes right down the street. I would put Sayoc ahead of Krav after some careful research and consideration. I'm thinking I should go with Krav for now since it's the only feasible option for me at the moment. What do you think?
Second question, is there any point in me picking up the training knives if all I will have are videos and no partner to train with? Seems pointless to me. I am defiantly keeping an eye open for anyone who may be interested in training together. At least if I have another person I can count on we could train together and level up. Pretty much all my local "friends" I would consider sheep. They relinquished their responsibility for their safety and safety of their family long ago. Perhaps at the Krav class I'll met someone interested in training Sayoc.
What to do when there are limited defense classes near me

For the first question, is Krav Maga the only alternative near you, or is it just the closest one by you? I would see if there's like a week trial for the Krav Maga class and make a decision based off your experience and take it one month at a time.
Unfortunately can't offer any insight on the second question.

There is Taekwondo and BJJ. I took Taekwondo for a few years as a kid and I never found it was very practical. From what I gather Krav Maga is one of the most practical and applicable to "real world" situations. What I want is just a simple no-nonsense, most useful for the street, defense discipline.
Funny I see this reply this morning. I was just thinking of ordering the knifes anyways. Been talking to a new friend and gave him a huge wake up call about his lack of defense and situational preparedness. Perhaps I'll have a training partner one day here after all. But is it any good if we're both new to Sayoc and trying to learn it together? Pretty much the blind leading the blind? I can eventually make it to a Sayoc seminar or catch up with one of the guys from the hood who's into it.
Guess I got to stop calling this place the hood since name change
Thanks Noa!

Something else... Traveling for Sayoc seminar or any other professional training is realistically over a year away for me. I want to do something now and Krav Maga is right down the street, night classes, free 1st class.

martial arts training is mostly dictated by what is nearby and the instructor teaching
check them all out, then chose the one you dig, and will stick with!
