tac boots?

Post by Ice »

been building on my SHTF prep

Looking at footwear for all-purpose (running, hiking, tough terrain). 511 caught my eye on a lot of things. Wondering if there's any better footwear brands you recommend, or if you have a pair of these?

similar to the pair they gave me a few years ago when we were doing training for them

I like, but for a LONG lasting heavy boot, Danner was my first choice

511 actually just came out with some running type shoes, that were really nice too, almost bought a pair a few days ago

Thanks B! Checked them out and look great. Like the fact they're goretex/waterproof/breatheable.

I'd definitely second the danner boots. Combat tested without a doubt they work and last.

If anyone is tempted to buy Nike tactical. They are the lightest, softest, most comfortable tactical boot that lasts about three months you will ever own. I have never been so happy and so angry at a pair of boots.

You know, It's strange that I've never seen a pair of those in the wild. And Oakley offers LEO discounts.

What's your experience with side zip boots? Do they last and are they comfortable?

Just some random info from my experience and some info from the foot guru world

If the outer construction has too light of a mesh, then stickies will find there way in them and become a real pain if they get through to the feet. For this reason I choose mostly leather shoe. The synthetic tongue in those 5.11 boots is the type I have never had issues with, I'm referring to stuff like this http://takeyourtips.com/wp-content/uplo ... -Width.jpg

A flexible sole is bad in the mountains, you feel all the rocks you step on, and your foot ends up hurting more at the end of the day.

Though not really proven by me, but every shoe I ever owned followed this random tidbit I found in a 1946 wilderness book. "shoes that crowd the big toe, throw the muscles supporting the arch out of alignment, develop fallen arches". Every good pair of boots I have liked has let my toes have space. Also put a 50 pound pack on you, pay attention to your feet getting wider. If your shoe is narrow in the toes, they will be even more so with a pack.

That's my 2 pennies, hope it helps.
