more shtf stuff
This is the bag that I'm looking to get. I like the size, the molle webbing, looks like it's durable. I'd like it to be the bag I carry what I need including ammo (which can be heavy as fuck and I don't want bag to break over time). Does anyone have any experience with these bags, or can recommend a better bag? Would be much appreciated.

Looks GTG. I am also making a BOB. I am thinking along the lines of a 3 day assault pack loadout. Post your contents, I could use some ideas. BTW my pack is the old frame ALICE. (Don't laugh)

Love 511 stuff. I have the smaller one I bought for my motorcycle trips. Used it for my ar15 course and worked great. Try to finger fuck first. It might be BIG. Like the messenger bag I almost bought. Thing is HUGE

I like the hikers backpacks better. They are in my opinion better set up for comfort, access to your gear faster and easier. And they tend to stand out less as military backpacks. In shit hits the fan, the government has been known to strip people of their weapons. And while many people argue they would just gun down that government, it's easier said than done. Look at Katrina, door to door they went and as far as I know, no one shot at them. Don't even think I would. Okay, rant over............
Kelty has an entire line-up which I love. I have these two............. Kelty Red Cloud 90 Internal Frame Backpack and the Kelty Redtail 27 Backpack. Quick tip on that 90L, measure your spine, just because your chest is 35 inches doesn't mean you are a large. Size has to do with length of spine.

They make good stuff. All the medics at work swear by their boots for comfort and durability.
I'd expect the same for their rucksacks.
In Canada you are actually bugging out cause we have so much wilderness nearby. So the tan colour is great. Wouldn't worry about the tactical look. It's not crazy. I've seen ppl with similar before just walking around. The bonus is the convenient speciality pockets which make or break a bag in my opinion. And with that much stiching ammo will break your back before the bag rips. That's where actually hiking with a heavy bag is important. Conditions your body. It's a lot different than going to the gym in my experience.

Re: bug out bag
Good stuff.
Different areas of the world require different priorities for a BOB
Az. Where I am. Desert.
So heat and water are super important.
But if you don't have to worry about carrying water, a small water filter or water straw might be good enough.
Urban= maybe more ammo and first aid
Cold weather or rain gear.
Bug spray (Alaska is bad for Mosquitos)
Also lots of guys get a BOB but spend 0% time coming up with a Bug Out plan or location.
One friend tells me "I'm heading up north if shit goes down, to the woods" but he's never hunted and have almost no camping experience. So what's the point?
So BOB and smart plan on what to do, even a few different plans if in a big city.
One of the best plans might just be locking down for a week or 3 until things settle down.

Ice, I'm not familiar with the term bug out bag. I'm assuming it's like an emergency kit? Is that correct? Really nifty concept if that's what it is all about.

Basically yes. An emergency kit that is more designed to contain anything you might need in case of an emergency where you can only depend on yourself. The assumption also that society is, or has, broken down. Violence against you may happen.
Thus people pack things like long lasting food, multi-purpose tools, items that help them obtain food, build shelter, create fire, etc. But as you've read, it can really depend on where you location is and where you plan on going.
The bug out bag is then packed and readily available to you at a moments notice.
This bag would typically differ from say, an emergency road-side kit. That kit is designed to save your car and a blanket to keep you warm. It's not designed to keep you alive. A bug out bag is.

Re: bug out bag
I just ordered the Rush 72 - be here by end of month. I checked it out in store and was surprised it wasn't as big as I had seen in pics. I'll post more when I get it and put my shtf stuff in it.
I'll make a separate post on my bug out plan B.
Right now my bug out bag list is:
- Benchmade Nimravus (fixed blade) - outdoor use
- Streamlight ProTac 2L w/ spare batteries
- 5 boxes (50 rnd) of 9mm ammo Remington
- First Aid Kit (Basic)
- 511 tactical pants
- Belt
- 3 t-shirts (cotton)
- 2 pair of jeans
- 2 pairs of shorts
- 7 pairs of socks - relatively warm
- 5 pairs of underwear
- Passport
- 2 pairs of spoons/knives/forks
- Can opener
- Canned Chilli
- Uncle Bens package pre-madewild rice with chicken
- Saltines
- few lighters/matchboes
Working on getting my hands on danner boots, some breathable socks, rifle, shotgun...
Interested to hearing what others would add to this list!
