Getting S**t sorted..... k's goals and improvement

Post by Monteray »

Thought I would jump onto the lifestyle thread bandwagon haha, plus it seems like a good idea and a good way to keep myself honest and track the progres of what i'm doing.

mostly short term stuff, will add some more longer term goals once I get some of the other stuff sorted out.

I'm pretty impulsive and making set plans and sticking to them is a challenge for me, so time to get this shit sorted.

School/Uni

Goal: To get a HD in Psych at University this semester. PSYC105 and MKTG101
*** Updated due to withdrawing from one unit***

What I need to do: It is going to take many hours of studying outside of class to achieve this goal. I also need to focus on paying attention in class and participating in discussions in tutorials. Each unit it is going to require at least 6-8 hours of out of class studying in addition to the 4 hours of face to face classes. So 10-12 hours for each unit of my time every week.

How am I going to achieve this: Planning my time for studying, staying ahead of what we are doing in class, being prepared for classes in advance, and starting assessment well before they are due.

Time Breakdown -

3 hours is face to face on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, then studying Monday from 5pm to 11pm after work at home or library = 6 hours (watch both Psych lectures and prepare for Tuesday tutorial). Wednesday 5pm to 11pm at home or library = 6 hours prepare for assessments in pysch. Sunday find 6 hours usually afternoon/evening at home or library (Work on assessments and read journal articles that weren’t done at work or during the week). Time missed to be caught up at another time. And during mid-semester break work on essay and research report, both are due after break.

How am I going to monitor this: Record time spent studying and review each week.

*I managed to get a distinction in sociology and a credit in psych last semester barely doing any work outside class and not even watching the last 4 lectures, so if I put in the required effort there is no reason why this cannot be achieved.

Goal: To get all the paper work sorted out from my previous studies in accounting to get some exemptions on the lower level units in the commerce side of my degree.

How am I going to achieve this: This week I will get all the paperwork out and sort through it = Friday after work, before I go out. Get out exactly everything I need, have it all prepared then book an appointment with an academic advisor.

Also thinking of doing my major in marketing rather than accounting, as I feel this would fit in better with Psychology. I am still undecided but don’t have to make a decision yet.

General stuff

Goal: Learn to speak another language, looking at Spanish, and also looking at Arabic, start ASAP (Just first beginner level)

What I need to do: Sign up and go to the classes, simple.

How am I going to achieve this: An eight week Spanish level one course costs $200 and is 8 x 1.5 hour classes so = 12 hours. I’m going to have to find a time that fits in with my Uni studies, and allow time for practice and learning outside of the class times, maybe double so 1.5 or 2 hours a week. I could also use time while I’m driving to work for practice = another hour per day.

Goal: Learn to play Piano (basic)

What I need to do: Find time and do it.

How am I going to achieve this: I have a keyboard already set up at home that works on Ableton through my laptop. I need to work out how much time I have to commit each week first and then find space in my spare time to do it. I might have to wait until after uni in November. I’m guessing at least 4 hours per week is the minimum I need.

Goal: Sort out my alcohol collection and cocktail gear (inspired after the home bar post by DJ ninja)

What I need to do: Work out exactly what I have and what needs to be thrown out. Then find somewhere at home to put it all.

How am I going to achieve this: On Saturday I am going to go through everything I have and then work out what I need to get. Finance is tough right now so I will put together a plan of what I need, might be something like buy one bottle per week until you build it up again.

Also want to learn some more drinks, and practice the ones I know already to make that delivery tight.

Work/Finances

Goal: Get out of my current job and into some night time work so I can focus on Uni. Probably looking at casual or full time bar work.
***** ON HOLD UNTIL I SORT OUT MY TRANSPORT SITUATION ****

What I need to do: Resign from my current job, get my RSA and RCG updated, find new work

How am I going to achieve this: My plan at the moment is to quit in two weeks on the 8th of September. I have to give notice of two weeks, so I am lining it up with my grandads 80th birthday that I promised my mum I would attend, this is out in the country like 5 hours from where I live. So finish up work that weekend then update my RSA and RCG certificate (this will cost $200)the following week and then hit the pavement and look for casual work at bars, basically cold approaching bars and pubs looking for work. I have 7 or 8 week holiday to get paid when I leave that is about 5k. I will use that to pay down some bills and keep myself afloat for a few weeks until I can find something.

I could also do another basic bar course to help my confidence + there are usually hot girls there, last time I met this hot American girl but was to AFC to go any further than a date.

Considerations/risks:

I think bar work will fit in well with my studies, it will also give me the benefit of getting used to being out in bars sober and being social all while getting paid + a different experience and something I haven’t done before = a good challenge and scary at the same time. The negatives are that I’m definitely going to be working harder (which I don’t actually mind), Likely to be working at times that I would have gone out for pick up before (ok because I can find other times to go out for pick up), and getting payed less = working those times to make the same money.

This is also not just something I thought up today, I have been seriously considering it for a few months now, thinking about how everything will work and what will change. I didn’t want to just jump into it at that moment but now the time has come to actually follow through and see what happens.

Fitness/Health

Goal: Get back into the gym.

What I need to do: Sign up to a gym, I have been out for six months so I know the first couple of weeks are going to suck, but once I get into it I will be fine.

How am I going to achieve this: I need to work out a plan, I would prefer to do mornings and I might wait until I get my work situation sorted, but I will definitely get into some body weight stuff at home to help prepare as much as I can. I fix my mountain bike last week so I will start finding time to ride that also. I will start stretching a few times a week before, I can tell how tight all my muscles are right now from being so lazy lately.

Plan: Allocate a few days this week and next week when you are going to do something then do it. I plan on signing back up to the local gym by September 20th. But for now body weight stuff (we even have a dodgy bench and some weight at home so can improvise a few things on that, get stretching 2-3 times a week, and get out on the bike 2-3 times a week.

Once back at the gym work out a more detailed plan and goals.

Cut junk food from diet now, last week I only went once which is so much better than the everyday of the last few months. My flatmate cooks all the time so that should help.

Once back into gym and more detailed plan is made I will go back to my dietician for a proper eating plan.

Only managed 3 hours of study on monday and wednesday this week, so catch up time is saturday for 6 hours which will be mainly reading journal articles.

was one of 2 people in the class who were prepared this week for the tuturiol so already ahead of 90% of the class, need to work hard though to stay infront. was funny because the tutor lost her shit when everyone said they hadnt done it lol.

Went out Thursday night solo but didn't get much done, approached but was nervous and it was showing. positive I walked about fucking 10 k's so got some exercise.

Pumped for tonight. can't wait to get out and approach.

Need to get income tax done, but im putting it off because i know I have to pay at least 1500 off my hecs loan, and I already owe them 500.

Getting my ex to fix my resume, she works in HR now so can sort it for me.

Grabbed a bottle of buttersctoch schnapps last night, so starting to build that collection again, and going to get another bottle of something else next week (probably Chambord)

Tonight before I go out I am going to sort out all my paperwork for school so I can book an acedemic advisor to get some exemptions = save money and time doing classes that I already know.

Solo game on friday went bad. made 2 approaches all night! still strugling here

Didnt catch up with my studying on Saturday, went to the beach instead, but made heaps of approaches, hooked quite a few sets, but no closes..

Some of these goals are going to have to change... I got in a car accident over the weekend, and am looking at a damaged car and I dont know whether it can be fixed plus a possible licence suspension. Going to be catching the train to work and uni now so will have to drop my marketing unit as I cant make it in time for the class.

I was really down and out about this on sunday, but I have realised there is nothing I can do and just need to reassess my goals and work with what I have. plus I will be getting a lot more exercise and have some more time on my hands to get back into shape.

Have sorted out all my paperwork for my exemptions so will arrange a time with the acedemic advisor to sort it all out within the next three weeks

Ok so had to drop my marketing class. can't get to class on time right now and for the next few weeks so it is impossible to pass. I have tried to think of ways to keep going, but I can withdraw today without having to pay so I just made the decision.

Still can't get my car out of impound, so just waiting to hear when it is okay and catching public transport everywhere, this sucks but there are actually lots of attractive girls on the trains so its not all bad. Have also arranged to see the police on Sunday so will find out what is happening there.

Spent 6 hours both Wednesday and Thursday studying, have a research report group presentation in less than two weeks so have been basically reading research papers non stop. getting there but still a lot of work to do this weekend. (I am making up for last weeks shortfall in study time)

Work situation is on hold right now, I can't take a bar job with no transport + unknown what is going to happen. will reassess soon when more is known.

Got at least 15 hours of studying in last week, got started working on my presentation and should be close to finished this week. only have one unit now so 15 hours is over what i estimated. Got the stas lecture out of the way so I can focus on the lecture this week and some reading tonight. 4 journal articles to go!!

Got back on my bike as well. did 20k's on saturday, and then sunday got about half way in and got a flat. I didn't take anything with me so had to walk to the nearest train station and catch the train home. normally I would be cursing and angry, but I wasn't too fazed by it. At one point I was walking to the station I thought to myself "oh fuck I left my wallet at home so I can't catch the train". But instead of just accepting that crap and walking 10k's home, I said fuck it just go to the station tell the guy what happened and he will let you on. worked out got home in 30 mins on three different trains, and even got an approach in at one of the stations. HOT little asian, unfortunately she was 16 so just chatted.

Will find out about my licence in the next few days, went to see the police and he said he will send me the ticket in the mail. was pretty cool about it all so hopefully it will work out. kinda out of my hands at the moment so fingers crossed...
