Or Kentucky. The laws are virtually identical, and it's closer to Massachusetts.

Re: AK-47 or AR-15
Checked out all the guns recommended here. The AR is so much more expensive, than the AK. In the end each are good guns, all about need and price in the end. Leaning towards the century AK now, under $700, and ready to throw lead right out off the shelf. I may spend more and go for the AR, as in my area they offer classes on it, so I can be a better shooter etc. Thanks for all the help guys.

Ak's are also far less accurate in a faster rate of fire, due to the firing system. In the AR the bolt goes straight back into the buttstock distributing recoil directly into the shoulder, the AK's bolt stops right at the sights, causing more recoil. I know some jackass is going to say something about more recoil because it's a 7.62, but it has more recoil than an AR-10 which is also a 7.62

Re: AK-47 or AR-15
Good point fame. I personally like the recoil on my AK though, it gives it a good solid feel without being too much versus the light pop of an AR. Truth be told, accuracy at a high rate of fire really doesn't matter outside of military applications. My Semi-Auto AK is plenty accurate for just shooting for fun. I've put all 30 rounds inside a 2" grouping before at 50yds. If you want a fun, easy gun that's super cheap to just mess around with, the AK is the way to go in my personal opinion.
I would stay away from Century arms, personally. While cheap, they're extremely hit-or-miss. Mine sucks, it jams every 5 rounds (I think i need a new recoil spring or ejector). Plus I got mine for $400, new. $700 is far too much for a century. For that price I would look at getting an Arsenal AK. I've never shot one personally, but from what I hear they're very well made (as long as you don't mind synthetic furniture).

I use a knife.
Anybody can pop a gun off but it takes a real man to get up close and stab him! :p

Re: AK-47 or AR-15
ha, well perhaps you should read the book On Killing.
Knives are awesome and my mind is conditioned enough for that sort of thing, so think I can handle the use of a knife in a fight from the begining rather then at a last resort
Bravo gave me his knife so I'm pretty pumped about the day I get to use it, I've pulled it out only once on someone who was threatening me, he didn't see it as it's suppose to be hidden, but I think my overall body language conveyed for him I wasn't to be fucked with, so he backed off, but that's the extent of it's use so far, but shooting (for me anyways) is therapeutic, and putting distance between you and your target is healthier for your mind
And to answer the last statement, the AR does have a light pop, and rapid fire doesn't have a use outside of military applications, true, but if shit ever hit the fan, I would rather have a weapon with less recoil and just as much stopping power, and the ammo is easy to find, used by law enforcement and military, so excellent in a crisis to have 5.56 over 7.62

Re: AK-47 or AR-15
Price point is not as big of a deal these days. Either rifle is going to cost 600 to 800 for a good basic carbine. I own several of both so, I am unbiased. But let's take a closer look shall we.
AK 47 or AK 74 and variants. Heavy, no bolt hold opern, primitive controls, excessive muzzle rise, mediocre accuracy,(due to the piston flexing) abhorrent sighting system. magazines are difficult to remove from carriers.
AR15, M4, SOPMOD, Commando or XM mods: Light weight, bolt hold open, handy controls, very low muzzle rise, exceptional accuracy(due to the direct gas impingement system) long sight radius. Magazines slip effortlessly from carriers to the platform. Now the kicker. It's modular, like a barbie doll for men. You can even make it mission specific.
The only downside is the direct impingement gas system dumps gas into the receiver, Ie; it shits where it eats. Do not despair, if you keep it wet, and it only runs well wet, it will run forever. If you don't believe me sign up for a carbine class or a SWAT school and run thousands of rounds a day through it. Dry guns DIE.

Re: AK-47 or AR-15
Pretty much boils down to personal preference. I also have both, and I wind up shooting my AK almost exclusively, because I like it more. Also, ammo is dirt cheap, and cleaning it is literally a 30 second endeavor.
Just be careful with which brand of AK you buy if you decide to go with one. I got a century GP1975 for dirt cheap, but it keeps jamming. I think they misaligned the gas port when they built it, gonna have to try drilling it out to see if it'll run smoother.
