Ok, I will admit, I have been very active in the forum lately...why? Well I am an unemployed- free living man, and it feels great! Last few weeks, I have noticed a lot of guys particularly grilling me because of the way I dress...You know what..the ladies seem to like it and I don't give a shit! So, on to my tips of Fashion:
First off, and probably the most important, know who you are! Do not just dress a certain way because it looks cool or you saw it in a magazine! I wear V-neck t-shirts because I look good in them, even know everyone gives me shit!
So know your body type and what works for you: ( did some reserach on ask men and here are the reccomendations for certain types)
The Bulky man
You should buy clothes that fir firmly. If you are considerably big, do not buy clothes that are big, as it will only make you look bigger. You should buy clothes that are somewhere between baggy and tight, and that do not hug your body too much.
Stay away from horizontal stripes, along with diagonal. Instead wear horizontal stripes that draw the eye downward, elongating your figure that visually make you appear slimmer.
Choose one clor and stick with it. Choose both pants and shirts that are similar in color, so that it creates an image of a slimmer version of you instantly. Black is the best for a slmming effect, but do not be afraid to throw in little accessoroes here and there so it does not look like you are fark all the time.
Stay away from crazy prints, as these draw attention to your upper body. if you are going to wear a print, it is best to keep it simple.
Choose your slacks carefully! Do not buy pants with pleats as they will make you look a lot bigger. If you have a pop belly, consider wearing suspenders under your blazer so it takes the spotlight off your midsection.
- Always wear a belt, as it will make your waistline appear slimmer, just do not singe it so tight.
- Do not overstuff your pockets, as it will call unwanted attention to your midsection
The Tall and Skinny Man
- Get tailored/fitted shirts! If you do not, your shirt will blow around making you look like a huge man sailboat.
- Play around with colors..Do not go solid from head to toe, as it will make you appear even skinner than you are.
- Choose light colors, as it will make you appear larger than you are.
- Do not wear vertical stripes! Instead, go horizontal, unless the time calls for vertical! Horizontal stripes will help your shoulders seem broader.
- Avoid round toe shoes, as it will make you look disproportionate. Instead go for square or pointy shoes to balance out your shape.
- Stay away from skinny jeans, unless you are in a band. A man, should never wear them anyways, and you should always have a classic cut to be simple and clean
The short guy ( thats me)
Proper fit is key, hence why i almost get everything I wear tailored to perfection.
- Wear vertical stripes, as it elongates your height
- Do not wear a blazer with more than 3 buttons
- V-necks will make your torso appear longer
- Wear square toed shoes, and shoes with heels.
- Wear a slimmer neck tie, and choose accessories
On to what everyman should work on owning and having as part of his wardrobe
1) A black dress shirt
2) Blazer/Over coat
3) Scarf
4) Dress shoes black and brown
5) Leather belt
6)T-Shirts of the simple colors, white, black, grey ect
7) White dress shirt
8) Black socks
9) A fitted suit
10) A polo shirt
11) A tailored pair of jeans
This is just a basic start up guide to fashion! Do not forget, be your own guide and go with what makes you feel comfortable! Do not just buy brand names because they are cool, what looks good on a cover model of Esquire does not mean that it will look good on you too!

Re: Style Tips...Shit every man should know
Awesome post!
I'm a short stocky guy, the first night that I started wearing V-Neck shirts 2 girls I know told me that they liked it a lot and made me look taller. 1 said that she had wanted to tell me to try V-Necks for awhile because it would make it look like I actually had a neck (I'm 5'6" and have a 20" neck).
Also, getting jeans tailored to fit is a MUST!!!

Re: Style Tips...Shit every man should know
I always get shit from my friends about V-necks and tailored jeans....but girls notice, and I love the way they look!
Sometimes getting a second opinion from a girl can be a good thing..there have been times where I spent time with the girls who work retail to work on my gear....Have not done it in a while, but did it when I first started out.
I'm 5ft 6 myself..My neck is a 17 so we have about the same frame...well almost!

I used to work in formal wear, so I know that it must be hell for you to try to find good dress shirts... I'm sure that any that you get you would have to get tailored because the body on a 20 is huge...Bandit wrote: I'm 5'6" and have a 20" neck.

Re: Style Tips...Shit every man should know
LOL....you have no idea...I'm sure you do, but while I need to lose more weight I still have NO neck. I've been buying dress shirts from Casual XL Male for interviews but my suit hides the baginess. Literally the pockets are halfway down my torso. I had to go with a grey suit because if I go black it looks like I'm a mafia hitman.NSM wrote:I used to work in formal wear, so I know that it must be hell for you to try to find good dress shirts... I've always had NO neck, even when I was fighting amateur MMA while I was in the military, I was 40 lbs lighter and ripped....5'6" 18.5" neck(and that was a push)...it was a major bitch. If I land the job I want I'll be buying some tailor made shit!!! LOL
The moral of the story is that best thing I've ever done is to have a chick go shopping with me. I've pulled suggestions from girls that are friends, my bestfriends GF, and girls that I'm hitting on....all helped me and now, about 5 months later I have girls asking ME where I buy my clothes and what I wear because they want to suggest to their brothers/friends on what to buy.... BECAUSE I look great and wear awesome stuff according to my targets.....huge fuckin' difference for me.

Bandit, you can always take your dress shirts you purchased to a tailor to get them re-made for you, and that usually doesn't cost too much. Also, I talked extensively about developing your own look in the style article I wrote.

Re: Style Tips...Shit every man should know
Thanks for the advice NSM, I've read your style article before, but I need to reread it.
I found some decent online deals for nice shirts tailor made to your measurements so that's likely the route I'll take for tailored shirts.

Re: Style Tips...Shit every man should know
Taz,
V-necks are awesome, girls love it because they can see your chest more. Also v-neck are usually worn tight, it allows you to show off your body. Girls like guys who have a V-shape upper body. Like how men love a curvy hour class woman like Sophia Loren.
I prefer to wear a yellow or red V-neck. The color allows me to stand out more.
